Let’s face it – 2020 has been a strange year.
But God was not surprised by all the events that have happened.
Would you join me in a four-week countdown to Thanksgiving?
When we stop for a moment, we realize we have much to be thankful for.
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
(Psalm 136:1, English Standard Version)
for his steadfast love endures forever.
Take a few moments and read Psalm 136 in its entirety.
Here’s the link: Psalm 136
The psalmist remembers and worships God for many things, and after each thing remembered, ends with the same phrase:
“for his steadfast love endures forever.”
The psalmist thanks God for creating heaven and earth, for protecting Israel against its enemies, and providing for their needs, following each remembrance with the same thing:
“for his steadfast love endures forever.”
I wonder what it would look like and feel like to make a list of all the good things God has done for us, and after each one, repeat the psalmist’s phrase, “for his love endures forever.” ?
Awkward?
Repetitive?
Boring?
Humility?
Gratitude?
Worship?
Sometimes I sit with a simple phrase or truth, and let it permeate my head, my heart, and my soul.
And it is life-changing.
This simple phrase is one of those.
May it be the same for you.
Take a moment and memorize verse 1, and remember it often:
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever.
(Psalm 136:1, New International Version)
Lord, I agree with the ancient psalmist – You are indeed good, and Your love endures forever.
Thank You, Lord, for this simple phrase – Your love endures forever.
As I go throughout the events of the day, help me, Lord, to recite the simple but profound truth that Your steadfast love endures forever.
Thank You, Lord.
Amen.
His love endures forever,
