Countdown to Thanksgiving – Day 3

Let’s face it – 2020 has been a strange year.
But God was not surprised by all the events that have happened.

Would you join me in a four-week countdown to Thanksgiving?
When we stop for a moment, we realize we have much to be thankful for.

Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!
    Serve the Lord with gladness!
Come into his presence with singing!

Know that the Lord, he is God!
    It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
    and his courts with praise!
Give thanks to him; bless his name!
For the Lord is good;
    his steadfast love endures forever,
and his faithfulness to all generations.

(Psalm 100:1-5, English Standard Version)

I am thankful for God’s faithfulness today, and every day, for that matter.

The psalmist is excited about who God is, and what He has done, and invites others to join in worshipping the Lord.

And why should we worship God?

Because God made us and cares for us – He chose us; we did not choose Him (verse 3).

And was God’s care unique to that ancient generation?

No.

God’s faithfulness extends to all generations, from that ancient time until now, and even to the future generations not yet born.

We might provide for and bless our children or even our grandchildren, but God provides and protects and is faithful to all generations.

Only God can do that.

And for that alone, we praise and worship Him, and say Thank You.

Here’s a paraphrase of Psalm 100 – may it encourage your heart today:

Lift up a great shout of joy to the Lord!
Go ahead and do it—everyone, everywhere!
As you serve him, be glad and worship him.
Sing your way into his presence with joy!
And realize what this really means—
we have the privilege of worshiping the Lord our God.
For he is our Creator and we belong to him.
We are the people of his pleasure.
You can pass through his open gates with the password of praise.
Come right into his presence with thanksgiving.
Come bring your thank offering to him
and affectionately bless his beautiful name!
For the Lord is always good and ready to receive you.
He’s so loving that it will amaze you—
so kind that it will astound you!
And he is famous for his faithfulness toward all.
Everyone knows our God can be trusted,
for he keeps his promises to every generation!

(Psalm 100:1-5, The Passion Translation)

Lord, Thank You for Your faithfulness to every generation, from the beginning of time until now, and into the future beyond our sight.

Lord, we worship You because You created us and care for us.
You are faithful to heal our wounds and encourage us when life is hard.

Lord, I can trust You because You are a good Father. You know what is best for each person, and each generation, and are faithful to carry out and provide for each one’s needs, mine included.

Lord, I give everyone and everything to You – I can’t carry the weight of the world on my shoulders, nor did You ever intend me to do so. I entrust all these cares to You, Lord.

Amen.

Learning to entrust everyone and everything to Him,
