Lent 2022 – Day 12

As promised, we’re revisiting Psalm 46, verse 10, especially the first line:
“Be still, and know that I am God.”

In our last time together, we looked at the phrase, “I AM”.

“God”

Last, and certainly not least, God reminds us of who He is – God.
He is supreme above all human rulers, and has no equals. All other deities (gods) bow down before Him.
He is all-knowing, all-powerful, all-present everywhere at all times.
He is the self-sufficient One – He needs no one else, and nothing else.

And yet, He made us to be in relationship with Himself.

When we comprehend who God is, it leads us to worship.

Hanna (the mother of the Old Testament prophet Samuel), rejoiced when the Lord answered her prayer and gave her a son to hold in her previously childless arms:
“There is none holy like the Lord: for there is none besides you; there is no rock like our God.”
(1 Samuel 2:2, ESV)

When God made His covenant with King David, David responded in praise:
“Therefore you are great, O Lord God. For there is none like you, and there is no God besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears.” (2 Samuel 7:22, ESV)

When reflecting on the goodness of God, wrote:
“There is none like you among the gods, O Lord,
nor are there any works like yours.
All the nations you have made shall come
and worship before you, O Lord,
and shall glorify your name.
For you are great and do wondrous things;
you alone are God.”

(Psalm 86:8-10, ESV)

God, speaking through the prophet Isaiah, said:
“By myself I have sworn; from my mouth has gone out in righteousness a word that shall not return: ‘To me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear allegiance.’” (Isaiah 45:23, ESV)

The Apostle Paul references this verse in Romans 14:11 and Philippians 2:10-11.

Truly, God is worthy of our surrender and obedience.

And this is the message of Easter – God laid aside all His glory and endured suffering, humiliation, and death in order to pay for our sins, once for all, and make the way for us to be redeemed and reconciled to Him to now and always.

During this Lenten season, may we take God seriously for His offer of eternal life.
And may this lead us to surrender and repentance and worship of Him and Him alone.

Blessings,
~kevin
