As promised, we’re revisiting Psalm 46, verse 10, especially the first line:
“Be still, and know that I am God.”

In our last time together, we looked at the first word, “Know”.

“I AM”

Whenever I read this, my mind takes me back to the interchange between Moses and God in Exodus chapter 3:

Then Moses said to God, “If I come to the people of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ what shall I say to them?” God said to Moses, “I am who I am.” And he said, “Say this to the people of Israel: ‘I am has sent me to you.’” (Exodus 3:13-14, ESV)

In this simple exchange, God reminds Moses of His eternality – from eternity past, to present, to eternity yet to come. He is the God of the past, He is the God of the present, and He will be the God of the future.

One time when Jesus was teaching in the temple, the Jewish religious leaders came to pick a fight with Him. The religious leaders accused Jesus of being a Gentile, and of being under the control of Satan. Jesus made clear His allegiance to and relationship with God:
“Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.” (John 8:58 ESV)

During this season leading up to Easter, we are reminded that He conquered death once for all (Hebrews 10:10). Once means once, and All means all, amen?

May we rest in the assurance that what Jesus did for us on the cross was enough, and that His resurrection and offer of eternal life gives us assurance of our life to come in Him and with Him.
