⁶ You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. ⁷ Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. ⁸ But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

The Apostle Paul reminds us that it is nothing of our doing that gets us into heaven.

We don’t have to clean up our act, meet Him halfway, or any other effort on our part to make ourselves presentable in order for God to accept us.

What a relief!!

Paul says that when we were powerless (v. 6 – broken, homeless, a dirty beggar on the streets, wearing ragged, smelly clothes), and still a sinner (v. 8), Christ died for us.

Paul inserts verse 7 in the middle of these two bookends, reminding us that Christ died for us with full knowledge that we could do nothing in return for Him.  Before we came to Christ, we were neither righteous nor good, yet He accepted us and loved us anyway.

How amazing is that??

Take some time to worship the Lord today, for His willingness to die for you and me when we did not deserve His love.
