Old Endings and New Beginnings

22 Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed,
    for his compassions never fail.
23 They are new every morning;
    great is your faithfulness.
24 I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion;
    therefore I will wait for him.”

25 The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him,
    to the one who seeks him;
26 it is good to wait quietly
    for the salvation of the Lord.
(Lamentations 3:22-26 NIV)

As another year winds down and a new year is about to begin, my heart echoes several thoughts as I look back and look forward.

These thoughts are not in discord but in harmony, not in competition, but in teamwork as I look at the world around me.

I am often reminded of these verses recorded by the prophet Jeremiah, as he remembers the goodness of God in the midst of Israel’s rebellion and waywardness.

I am humbled by God’s grace and love for me, despite all my shortcomings and failures.  He loves me unconditionally, something I will never fully fathom this side of eternity.

And what He asks of me is to walk with Him and share His love with those around me.  Seemingly simple, but yet the battle rages every day for my heart and my mind.

As you look back over this year and look forward to the next, may you take time for worship and for quiet, to consider what God has been and done in your life, and what your heart desires in the future.

Let this old hymn be your praise today:

Great is Thy Faithfulness

Blessings,
