Lent 2022 – Day 3

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
    the holy habitation of the Most High.
God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved;
    God will help her when morning dawns.
The nations rage, the kingdoms totter;
    he utters his voice, the earth melts.
The Lord of hosts is with us;
    the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah

(Psalm 46:4-7, English Standard Version)

As we continue our walk through Psalm 46, we see the Lord’s comfort amidst the turmoil.
Yesterday, we saw the Lord providing for His people through natural disasters.
Today, we see God providing shelter for His people, even as the nations around them rage.

Who or what do we rely on for our safety?
Our job?
Our possessions?
Our bank account?
Our government?
Our home?
Ourselves?

Maybe we’re asking the wrong question.

Instead of asking what we have for our safety, could it be that the only true measure of safety is Who possesses us? Who have we surrendered to?

Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.” (John 10:27-29 ESV)

This is why Jesus came to earth – to redeem us in our lostness, to make a way for us to have eternal life with Him, and nothing and no one can take that away.

May we rest and live confidently in His offer and promise.

Blessings,
~kevin
