In the second blog post, Isaiah was confronted with God’s holiness and glory, which led to his confession of sin and finding forgiveness. Isaiah’s finding forgiveness led to peace with God.

So what was next for Isaiah?

Let’s see what the text says:

⁸ And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.”

(Isaiah 6:8 ESV)

God, in His goodness, did not forgive Isaiah in order for Isaiah to figure out life on his own. After all, Isaiah (and the entire nation, for that matter) had strayed away and gotten into the mess they were in on their own – what would keep them from getting back into another mess and straying from God again?

Instead, God had a better plan for Isaiah – not only a better plan, but also a bigger plan – a plan to share the goodness of God with others.

When Isaiah heard God’s request for volunteers, he responded immediately.

He did not ask for details about the assignment.

He did not seek a deferment to start at a later date.

He did not respond with feelings of unworthiness or attempts to repay God for forgiving him.

Instead, Isaiah said with energy and without fear, “Here I am! Send me.”

As Isaiah experienced God’s unconditional love, he was free to love others and unencumbered to serve God wholeheartedly.

May we, like Isaiah, experience God’s forgiveness and answer His call with love and abandonment to Him.
